There are many different types, styles and designs of bikes on offer today. Each suits different people for different reasons, depending on where they are riding, the style of the rider, and what the rider wants to achieve from the bike. Do you just want to get from A to B, or to get from A to B in the shortest time?
Then we have to take in to account the amount you want to spend on a bike and relate the two together - can you acheive your riding goals given the amount you are looking to spend. Then we need to look at size... you get the idea that this is not as easy as just "riding a bike".

So as you can see there are lots of different styles of bikes here, even each section can be sub-sectioned-mountain bikes can then go in to cross country, trail, freeride and downhill or just hardtail and full suspension bikes.
